150 Family Members Attend the Bedford–Stuyvesant “Raise The Age New York” Community Forum

Posted: June 29th, 2012 | by Yuval Sheer

Building upon the success and momentum of our May East Harlem Community Forum–during which we hosted over 200 attendees–we convened a Brooklyn forum in June with more than 150 community members in attendance. This event provided families and youth a valuable opportunity to learn about and discuss New York’s low age of criminal responsibility.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Rukia Lumumba, Director of Youth Services at the Center for Community Alternatives for her tireless work in making this forum a success. We also express our gratitude to the evening’s featured speakers—Larue Jackson, Peer Leader and Youth Advocate at the Center for Community Alternatives, and Maxine King, Parent Activist at the Child Welfare Organizing Project.

Finally, we would like to acknowledge all of our Juvenile Justice Academy members who enthusiastically volunteered to organize and promote this event.

Our next community forum is scheduled for July 17th at 6:30PM at the Central Family Life Center, 59 Wright Street, Staten Island, New York. Please watch for our formal invitation, which will be sent out shortly.
