Queens Community Members Discuss Raising The Age of Criminal Responsibility

On May 8, 2013, parents and youth attended a Raise The Age New York Community Forum organized in collaboration with Forestdale, a child and family service organization, and the New Jerusalem Baptist Church of Jamaica. The evening represented the culmination of weeks of outreach within the community.

We were particularly heartened that the forum featured the voices of youth who spoke up, participated, and constructively contributed to this important conversation.

We express our thanks to Anstiss Agnew, Executive Director of Forestdale for her leadership in convening this evening. We are also extremely grateful for the hard work of Forestdaleā€™s dedicated staff: Lindsey McCormack, Director of Community Development; Brady H.Funn III, Director of Educational Opportunity and Workforce Development; Larry Edwards, Fathering Initiative Director, and Linda Ford, Administrative Director, Preventive Services .

We also express our thanks to the New Jerusalem Baptist Church for its hospitality and partnership in this cause. In particular, we thank Pastor Greg Browne, who directs the Justice Ministry; Pastor Tracy Ward, who directs the Youth Ministry, and everyone from New Jerusalem who put the word out, participated at the forum, and helped serve and clean up after the event, especially Mrs. Rosa Young.

Finally, a special thank you to our volunteer Linda Genereux, who worked tirelessly to spearhead this informative and successful forum.
