On June 12th, more than 150 community members participated in the Harlem Raise The Age Community Forum at the Community Center at Polo Grounds. This forum was organized by the Center in collaboration with The Children’s Village. Following Judge Corriero’s presentation, youth who were tried in the adult court system described their first-hand experience and offered their insights. Community members were then invited to join breakout sessions, moderated by the Center’s Juvenile Justice Academy members, during which attendees shared their perspectives and concerns on this pressing issue.
We would like to thank Jeremy C. Kohomban, President and CEO of The Children’s Village for supporting this important cause and for his work to improve justice for children; Administration for Children’s Services Commissioner Ronald E. Richter for his remarks and considerable leadership on justice for children; Charles Davis, Tonyna McGhee and Michael Robles from The Children’s Village for helping us to organize this event; and our youth speakers Shantora Blue and Herman Carvente.
Finally, a special thanks to Linda Genereux for her hard work coordinating this forum.
